We had a meeting with the team from Ship Support last Tuesday to finalize the plans before commencing the rebuild of Sea-Otter.
We have finally figured out the design of the plumbing system, mainly the toilets. Each head will have its own holding tank. The tanks will be situated above the waterline. From the head a manual membrane pump will deliver the content up to the tank. To empty the tank(s) we will fit a valve at the bottom and let it discharge by gravity or to be discharged via a deck fitting connected to a pipe down to the bottom of the tank(s). The latter for marinas that have pump out systems.
This planning took a long time because there is, at first, not a lot to read about toilet systems onboard. All our web ring friends were very helpful with advices and plans started to form slowly. We were searching all over the internet and finally we came across “The Headmistress" Peggy Hall, the founder of Peal Products (marine sanitation). Peggy was answering a lot of questions we had and gave us much of her vast experience of this topic. You can find her at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/phall.htm and http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/menu.tpl?fno=51&3102475052453646 .
Then the final advice came from Owen Morgan, a long time

Thanks Owen.
